June Observing Night

NT Dark Skies
Glorious dry season skies are now upon us, and there is
much to see.
Early in the evening Saturn is still visible above the
NW horizon, but this is the last month for the year
that we shall be graced with her presence in the
evening skies.
Jupiter is very prominent, being almost overhead as
the sky darkens, the ever changing visa of Jupiter &
its moons is always worth a look.
Venturing out into deep space, the Eta Carina nebula
is a first port of call in the south western sky.
The giant unstable star Eta Carina at the heart of the
nebula is a sight that has to be seen to be believed !
Moving deeper out into the void & beyond our own milky
way galaxy we come to the 'Southern Pinwheel" galaxy
at a mere 15 million light years (LY) away.
Venturing further out we see the "Sombrero Galaxy" as
it was just before Dinosaurs became extinct on our
planet, at 60 million (LY) away.
All these and much more can be seen at Gove Amateur
Astronomers, Public viewing night this Sat the 11th of June
held at our Dark Sky site on the Dhupma Rd, Aprox. 3.7km along Dhupma Rd
measured from the turn off just before you get to the
airport (look for the signs).
Come join us from 5:30 pm on Saturday Arvo for a BBQ
($2/head) prior to the evenings viewing.
