First GAA Astrocamp of 2007

After 2 months of very wet and cloudy weather (it is the wet season after all !)
We are finally drying ourselves off, to come out and do some observing with our first astronomy camp for 2007.
Being held out near the Gidies river here in NE Arnhem Land NT & if the forecast can be trusted clear skies will be made to order, here's hoping !
There are some very nice deep sky targets to be found at this time of year with the nebulas of Scorpio, Saggitarius, Crux & Carina in the south, contrasting with the Galaxy peppered constellations of Leo & Virgo in the north.
For the early riser on Sunday morning we have the peak of the Lyrids Meteor shower with predicted rates of 10 to 20 /hr, only those of this far north in Australia will get a good look at this shower as it is to low on the horizon for most of the country.
